Shiatsu is a Japanese healing therapy and is literally translated as 'finger pressure'. The client remains fully clothed and a session usually takes place on a futon at floor level and I also use body cushions for added support. If you are unable to lie down a session can be done in the sitting position.

Energy (known as Ki in Japanese or Chi in Chinese) flows through out the body in pathways called meridians and this energy may become blocked or weak and a variety of techniques are used to improve the energy flow. The techniques include gentle holding, pressure on the meridians using the palms, thumbs, fingers, elbows, knees or feet, and if appropriate stretches and rotations e.g. arms.

Common conditions which have been helped by Shiatsu:

  • back pain
  • headaches, migraines
  • whiplash injuries and neck stiffness
  • joint pain and reduced mobility
  • menstrual problems
  • digestive problems
  • asthmatic symptoms
  • sport injuries
  • depression

Benefits of Shiatsu:

  • It relaxes mind and body
  • It restores balance and energy
  • It eases tension and stiffness
  • It improves breathing
  • It improves posture
  • It improves circulation
  • It enhances well being

Guidelines for receiving Shiatsu:
